The Headhunters President, Cam Macmillan, was quoted in today’s Financial Post article discussing job prospects for people without degrees.

Getting a university education usually translates into a higher paying job. But if you don’t have a degree, don’t despair. According to a recent study by Adzuna.ca, a job search engine, a few listed professions pay admirable salaries without the requirement of higher education.
Real estate agents make an average of $102,000 a year while someone in mining and construction earns $99,720, according to an analysis of Adzuna job postings. An electrician takes home a salary of $64,601 and a waste manager makes $76,122. (There are 244 open positions for waste managers across the country.)
And don’t forget the trades and entrepreneurship. “In terms of earning power, those highly skilled tradespeople, it could be millwrights, plumbers, pipefitters, carpenters, they make great money and don’t have a university degree for the most part,” says Cam Macmillan, president of The Headhunters, a recruitment firm with offices in Edmonton, Vancouver and Winnipeg.
If you don’t have a degree, there are options, says Gabriel Puliatti, country manager for Canada at Adzuna. “But you do need to look a bit further and search deeper because if you don’t have a degree, it’s going to be harder [to land a high paying job].”
Adzuna analyzed its more than 83,000 available jobs. Of them, 18,786 positions require applicants to have a degree. The search engine found that those with a degree should expect to earn an average of $15,329 more a year than their peers without undergraduate or postgraduate degrees.
