Questions About Working with a Recruitment Agency?

Working with a recruitment agency can be a new experience, and we want you to feel confident every step of the way. Our team has put together answers to some of the most common questions we hear from job seekers so you know exactly what to expect.

There are two types of recruiters: corporate and agency. Corporate recruiters work within a specific company, often as part of an HR team, and hire qualified candidates for available positions within that company. Agency recruiters (like The Headhunters) are those who work in a recruitment firm, which is a business that other companies pay to help them fill job vacancies. These other companies are the “clients” of the recruitment firm.

Agency recruiters find the best candidates (job seekers) who meet the qualifications for the jobs their clients are looking to fill, and will conduct part or all of the hiring process for them. This may include job postings, headhunting, resume screening, interviews, reference checks, background checks and job offer negotiations.

Because of this relationship between a client (employer) and a recruitment firm, these companies are typically not posting the jobs anywhere themselves—i.e. you would only find these jobs through The Headhunters. This is sometimes called the “hidden job market.”

Other names you might see for recruitment firms include recruitment agency, staffing agency or employment agency.

In Canada, a recruitment agency will only charge a fee to the employer (client) for their services. Recruiters in Canada are not legally allowed to charge fees to people looking for jobs (candidates).

This is a very common question, and the answer is… sort of! Recruiters are working on open jobs that their clients (employers) are paying them to fill, and you could potentially be the best fit for one of these positions. A good way to think about it is that recruiters find people for jobs, rather than jobs for people.

Visit Our Specialties for a current list of the areas in which we recruit.

We do only recruit in our specialty areas. Within these specialties, we post new jobs all the time when our clients have new vacancies, so keep checking back! You can still upload your resume using the ‘Sign Up’ link near the top of our job board. You’ll receive an email with a link to set a password and login, and once logged in, you can upload your resume, sign up for new job alerts and apply for future jobs.

The majority of our jobs are located in Canada, and for those positions we are only able to work with individuals who are already legally authorized to work in Canada. Unfortunately, we cannot assist with job offers for express entry, sponsorship or immigration programs.

To learn more about available options to work in Canada, please refer to the Work in Canada information provided by the Government of Canada.

Occasionally we will have a job posted in the United States or another country—in those situations, please refer to the specific requirements in that job posting.

Our recruitment agency focuses primarily on recruiting for permanent, full-time positions. Unfortunately, we do not generally have job opportunities for part-time roles, internships, apprenticeships, etc. Occassionally we will post a temporary full-time work assignment on our job board, but these are not very common for The Headhunters.

We are a fully remote team without any physical office locations. We only accept resumes submitted digitally. Due to the high volume of applications and inquiries we receive, Recruitment Consultants are only able to meet with candidates who have applied and have been selected to move to the next steps in the hiring process for a particular job.

We review every application that we receive with respect and diligence. Our Recruitment Consultants review the resumes; we do not use AI or automation for screening. We evaluate your background and determine if it aligns with our current opportunities. Recruiters will contact the candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process. We do receive hundreds of resumes each month and we simply cannot response to or place everyone. As such, our Recruitment Consultants typically are only able to speak with the candidates who are selected to proceed in the hiring process of jobs we are currently working on for our clients.

The information you provide to The Headhunters is held in the strictest of confidence. Only with consultation and your permission will we present your resume to potential employers. For more information about data collection and storage, read our Privacy Policy.

Privacy is our highest priority for our clients (employers), just as it is for job seekers we work with. The timing of when we disclose the company name to you will depend on many factors, but most importantly we must follow the wishes of our client. Companies often choose to work with us for highly confidential searches, so this is especially important in those cases.

We will always tell you who the company is before sending you for a job interview with them. You will have ample time to prepare and research the company, and you are never obligated to meet with one of our clients after we tell you who the company is.

A career coach or advisor is better suited to assist with this. You can read this blog for more details on different career services and practitioners.

Our company’s phone numbers are only able to accept phone calls—they are not capable of sending or receiving text messages. You can contact us by email or phone call.
