To complement our recent article on the value that temporary employees add to strategic planning, we would like to share some of the highlights of Martin Reeves’s recent Ted Talks presentation, ‘Your strategy needs a strategy.’

Martin is the leading figure at the The Strategy Institute, a division of the Boston Consulting Group, which he joined more than 25 years ago. As discussed in our previous blog, strategies cannot simply be reactive practices that put out fires. But at the same time, strategic plans will be difficult to realize if they are etched in stone as broad, unwieldy juggernauts of progress. In this world that has come to terms with globalization, rapid technical innovation, volatile markets, and empowered consumers, the time of overly structured strategic plans is over. The most effective strategies, says Reeves, will respect the context in which the business operates. This means that your company may still be legitimately influenced by the classic business strategies of the twentieth-century. Still, in accordance with your market, 2016 will demand a strategic plan that embraces elements of adaptive, shaping and visionary business plans.

With such eclectic approaches to strategic planning, finding the right people to spearhead these initiatives can be daunting and time-consuming. That is why we are proud of our extensive network of talent which boasts experience across many industries and multiple strategic platforms within those industries. So, if you are planning for 2016 to be a strategically nimble year, it is important that you have strategically nimble talent at your fingertips. That’s what we are here for.
